Survey Results and Determining Focus Area
Give everyone a target date to return surveys. Following the date, the Leadership Team and the Culture Change Team should plan to review the survey results.
Some of the areas identified by the survey will be easy to change. Some will be more difficult or require budget planning or approval. Start with the small things. Residents, families and staff need to see that you are immediately addressing their preferences. This will show that you are serious about making changes.
On the bigger areas, the Culture Change Team will have to brainstorm ways to implement the change in your home. Resist the knee-jerk "We can’t do that" response. You may not be able to reach the full magnitude of the request immediately, but think of a modified solution until you can get there.
There are many resources available to assist you:
- Contact AIPP for guidance.*
- Research on the internet using a Google search for "culture change in long-term care"
- Visit a facility that is currently using the practice.
- Contact one of our Culture Change Pilot Homes listed in the Stage 6.
*Fax the Culture Change Project Guide tool to AIPP for guidance in implementing changes in the identified focus areas. We will review the steps you are planning to take to make the change and offer guidance based on best-practice experiences.
